116 000: missing children
116 000 is the hotline for missing children, available in all 27 EU countries.
The hotline can be used to report a missing child; it also provides guidance and support to the families of missing children.
When you’re travelling in the EU, remember to take your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you. If you need emergency medical care, the EHIC card will simplify the paperwork and help you get refunded for any public health care expenses.
Melita wishes you safe travels.
Premium rated services are provided by private companies for a higher price than ordinary calls or SMS when used locally or while roaming abroad. These services typically include charity donations, voting activities, TV competitions and subscriptions services. Please be aware that some value-added voice or SMS services like premium-rated, freephone, or shared cost may not be part of your plan’s allocation and use of such services may result in out-of-plan, excess charges while roaming.
If you are not sure whether a number is premium-rated or not, we advise not calling or messaging the number.
Calls to Maltese freephone numbers, premium rate numbers and short codes may not be available when roaming and when available, they may be charged at a higher rate. Maltese premium rated numbers start with the number 5 while freephone numbers start with 800. If the number you are trying to reach is of an EU/EEA country, check whether it is used for premium rated, freephone, shared cost or other value-added services on EUroaminginfo.melita.com.
A public warning system alerts people in a certain location to imminent danger. This could be via a siren, or a SMS to all mobile users in the area which is, or may be, affected. In some countries you can download an App to receive warnings or similar information. If you’re traveling within the EU, find out what is available in the country you’re visiting on EUroaminginfo.melita.com
More information on the available network generations and technologies for each EU/EEA country and per available visited network information is available when choosing the country you wish to visit from the section `Check how you can Roam Like At Home’ above.
The above information gives the network generations and technologies that are available in optimal conditions. While Melita aims to provide customers with the best possible roaming service, some aspects are not fully within our control.
Whilst roaming, the service quality relies on the roaming partner’s network build, quality, coverage and technological factors, other third-party influences and local policies. This might lead to a lower quality of service when compared to using the service locally: issues such as dropped calls, lost or undelivered SMS, slower internet speeds or other connectivity issues may occur.
Other factors include, but are not limited to: roaming network coverage limitations based on geographical, architectural limitations, number of users on the network and within the same area as well as other seasonal activities and circumstances, weather conditions, temporary and permanent service outages, roaming capacity and bandwidth limitations as well as other non-disclosed service quality preferences and priorities of the third party roaming service providers over which Melita has no control. These factors might result in significant differences on the upload and download speeds when roaming compared to the speed and service in Malta.
Data speeds in destinations such as Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas may experience some latency due to the vast distance between these countries and Malta. Latency is a slight delay between sending a request over the internet and receiving the response.
Content and application-specific access and service quality may be affected whilst roaming based on the content provider’s policies, technological limitations and how certain locations, countries and geographical regions are serviced by the service providers. All these imply that the service level might vary as it might be localised or more restricted during roaming. Certain content applications may also consume a larger amount of data whilst roaming, leading to data allowances being used up more quickly.
To ensure the best possible experience always keep your handsets and other devices up to date by installing the latest operating system plus checking device settings to enable, or control service access. In case of roaming service disruption manual network selection as well as resetting your connection by rebooting the device and/or turning on and off airplane mode.
Roam Like at Home rates don’t apply while flying or at sea. The following charges apply: €5.89/min for calls made and received, €0.70 per SMS, no data roaming service is available. Calls are charged by the minute. To avoid charges, turn on ‘flight mode’ to stop all roaming services. The charges mentioned above apply when ‘flight mode’ is off. All charges are inclusive of VAT and exclusive of 4% excise tax.
