Call Blocking Notification

Starting from 1st November 2024, we will start blocking scam some calls from abroad that show a Maltese number as the Caller ID to safeguard against potential scam calls. This is based on new rules from the Malta Communications Authority (MCA)

How May This Affects You

Whilst calls from mobile numbers (i.e. a Maltese number starting with ‘7’ or ‘9’) won’t be affected, there may be an impact on certain scenarios that involve ‘call forwarding’, or on calls placed by callers making use of overseas telephony providers that are not authorised to provide services in Malta.

Blocked Calls from Maltese numbers starting with ‘1’, ‘2’, or ‘8’ will be blocked if:

· Made towards a foreign number that is forwarded to a Maltese number;

· Made towards an outbound roamer (i.e. a subscriber assigned a number starting with ‘7’ or ‘9’ currently roaming outside Malta) that is late forwarded to a Maltese number;

· Originated via an ‘overseas solutions’ (e.g. internet- based or cloud-based telephony services) offered by telephony providers not authorised by the MCA.

What Can You Do

If you rely on call forwarding and think this might affect you, consider other communication options. If you make use of internet or cloud based services, check that your provider is authorised by the MCA.

How to Check Your Service

If you use online or cloud-based phone services with a Maltese number starting with ‘1’, ‘2’, or ‘8’, check if your provider is authorised:

· Dial (+356) 2400 2400 from your online or cloud-based phone service.

· If your provider is authorised, you will hear a voice message confirming it.

· If not, contact your provider of your online or cloud-based phone service.

What Can You Do

If you rely on call forwarding and think this might affect you, consider other communication options. Calls from mobile numbers starting with ‘7’ or ‘9’ will not be blocked.
